Fillers: when to start and what to watch out for

What are fillers?

Fillers are injectables that fill in wrinkles, restore lost facial volume and correct contours. They most often contain hyaluronic acid, which retains moisture in the tissues and gives the skin a more youthful appearance.

When are fillers indicated?

Fillers should only be injected when indicated, not "just in case".

The main reasons:

  • Deep wrinkles that cannot be eliminated with care cosmetics
  • Loss of volume in the cheekbones, cheeks or lips with age
  • Facial asymmetry that requires correction

Why fillers should not be done too early

Contrary to popular belief, fillers do not prevent wrinkles. They are designed to fill in defects that already exist. Early injections without medical indications can lead to undesirable effects:

  • Accumulation of the drug in the tissues - studies show that fillers can persist for up to 12 years
  • Filler migration - the drug is able to move to other areas, changing the contour of the face
  • Pillow face - frequent corrections create a "pillow" effect, smoothing out natural lines and relief

Can filler be removed?

Filler removal is possible using the enzyme hyaluronidase, which breaks down hyaluronic acid. However, the procedure has risks:

  • An inflammatory process is possible
  • Your own skin tissue may be damaged
  • It is not always possible to fully restore the previous relief of the face

How to avoid complications?

  1. Apply only to licensed clinics
  2. Choose a doctor with medical education and experience working with fillers
  3. Do not do the correction "in reserve"
  4. Before the procedure, discuss all risks and expected results

Fillers are an effective tool for rejuvenation, but only in the hands of a professional and in the presence of real indications. Early and frequent injections can alter natural facial features and lead to long-term consequences.
